Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)

Working in an industry that deals with hazardous substances can pose a significant risk to an employee’s health and wellbeing. In order to mitigate these risks, in 1988 the UK government’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) introduced COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Regulations.

COSHH Modules

On completion of the COSHH course individuals are able to relate to all the following points:    

  • Identify substances commonly found in the workplace.
  • Legal requirements relating to COSHH.
  • The types of injury and ill health that can be caused by hazardous substances
  • Understand the difference between acute and chronic Injuries and conditions.
  • The importance of good record keeping and identify the risks associated with hazardous substances
  • Providing information, instruction and training for employees and others;
  • Providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases;
  • Planning for emergencies.
