Owen Legge, 17 from Wolverhampton, worked part-time as a Window Fitter whilst he was at college. Eager to follow in his father’s footsteps to pursue a career in construction, he quit college to gain valuable experience and learn on the job.

Sadly the job fell through, leaving Owen confused and anxious for the future, until one day he came across Jobchange’s Jumpstart into Construction on Facebook. The opportunity to gain a multitude of sector specific qualifications for free, as well as a guaranteed job interview encouraged him to get in contact with Jobchange and enrol onto the programme.

The Jumpstart team supported Owen in gaining his qualifications including Emergency First Aid, Asbestos Awareness and Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. He also worked alongside the Deputy Programme Manager, Terell who mentored him throughout to build his confidence through employability workshops and personal development sessions.

When catching up with Owen he said ‘At first I thought I wouldn’t pass anything because my confidence had taken a knock but my advisers and trainer were really supportive. The programme had everything I wanted, including a free Nandos! I would recommend it to everyone’ He is currently working towards his CSCS card and his ambition is to become a roofer.
