As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2018, we thought we would share with you stories from our apprentice’s and show how much of an impact they have had on our organisation.

To kick start this week, we sat down with one of our newest Apprentices, Elliot Friend who is currently working as a Marketing Officer, whilst doing a Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship.

Apprentice Diaries- Our Newest Apprentice

Hi Elliot, Thank you for sitting down with me today. First of all, can you explain what your role is here at Jobchange, and what apprenticeship you are doing?

I am currently a Marketing Officer at Jobchange and I’m doing a Digital Marketing Apprenticeship.

Can you explain your current job role?
I am in charge of all the content that goes onto our social media platforms, and produce monthly reports which we use to develop and improve our marketing strategies. I also work closely with company partners and other departments, allowing me to network, learn more about the company, and combine my practical and work base knowledge, to develop me in my career.

How do you think your apprenticeship will help your career?

I’ve been here for just under a year now, and have already seen in such a short time how beneficial doing an apprenticeship can be towards my work and progression. When I started working here, my knowledge of digital marketing was at a minimum.  Now I am responsible for social media, which is a really good feeling to have that my employer has noticed my development and given me this opportunity.

With this experience, I will be able to transfer these skills to any other role I take on in the future. In my spare time I enjoy music production and doing this apprenticeship has given me a different outlook on growing a business digitally. Not only is it benefitting me in my job role, but also supporting my hobby and passion.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I would like to pursue a career in music producing. This apprenticeship has taught me a lot about developing a business during this digital era, and I’m excited to continue learning to progress my skills and follow my passion.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I didn’t really plan on doing an apprenticeship. I’d heard about them before but didn’t know that much about them. I was out of work and was approached with this opportunity, and after doing my research I jumped at it! The fact that I am earning whilst learning is so beneficial towards my development, and I have finally got a clear direction of what I want to do in my career.

What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?
Through practical work base learning and my apprenticeship, I have enjoyed meeting new people, learning from their experiences and developing myself as an employee here at Jobchange. I’m grateful to have had this opportunity, and feel that my progression has been down to on the job learning and my employer investing in me- this is extremely motivating!

What is it like to balance work and study?

It can be difficult at times when I have deadlines and projects at work running at the same time, but throughout the year I have learnt to balance them a lot better and prioritise, which is extremely self-rewarding and a great transferable skill for my career.

What would your advice be to other people considering an apprenticeship?

Definitely consider an apprenticeship! It opens so many doors for you in your career as you gain valuable experience and a qualification. I couldn’t be happier with the direction I’m heading in.
